Kenosis

Yesterday, during the First Friday Mass, Father Bong Tupino delivered a homily on the concept of Kenosis, a Greek word that means “self-emptying.”

His central message was timely and profound: in an age where the world emphasizes self-love above all else, we are called to go against the tide by giving a part of ourselves to others. Father Bong even encouraged us to go further, to embrace the challenge of selflessness in our daily lives.

This perspective invites us to pause and reflect on the state of our world today, even within our own families and communities. Many conflicts arise from an excess of self-love: an attachment to convenience, personal image, or comfort. Such preoccupation with oneself often leads to indifference toward the struggles and suffering of others.

Father Bong’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of self-emptying in a world of people idolizing themselves.
